Hundreds of women affiliated with the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) gathered at Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Booma, Fort Portal, to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 Presidential bid.
The high-turnout event drew female delegates from across the districts of the Tooro sub-region, turning the tourism city into a central staging ground for the organisation’s intensifying nationwide mobilisation.
The delegates convened to deliberate on women’s leadership, community empowerment, and regional economic participation, while affirming their collective backing for Gen. Muhoozi’s leadership.
The gathering represents a deliberate effort to anchor the movement within women's voting blocs. Organisers underscored that women constitute an indispensable constituency in building durable community structures and driving civic transformation.
The Fort Portal meeting fits into a broader, coordinated expansion by the PLU across Uganda. Originally founded as the MK Movement before rebranding into the Patriotic League of Uganda in February 2024, the organisation has established nationwide coordination committees across traditional sub-regions. The group has steadily formalised specialised leagues, including youth, organized labour, and women, to drive extensive signature endorsement campaigns and establish functional grassroots structures ahead of the upcoming electoral cycles.
In Tooro, political actors and grassroots formations have sharply accelerated alignment meetings. The assembly at Booma served as a public demonstration of solidarity, with delegates discussing maternal welfare, local enterprise support, and rural community development.
Speakers rallied the attendees to remain active participants in governance and development, framing support for Gen. Muhoozi as a pathway toward national stability and accelerated socioeconomic transformation.
The meeting continued through the afternoon as additional district delegations arrived to register their participation and append their signatures to the regional endorsement register.
