Uganda Airlines has ordered eight Boeing aircraft as the national carrier moves to expand its regional and international network.
The order includes four Boeing 737-8 aircraft and four 787-9 Dreamliners. It marks the airline’s first direct purchase from Boeing.
The two companies announced the deal at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 21, 2026.
Uganda Airlines said the new aircraft will help it meet growing passenger demand, modernise its fleet and open more routes.
The airline’s chief executive officer, Ato Girma Wake, said the purchase would support efforts to turn Entebbe into a major aviation hub.
“This commitment with Boeing marks a defining step in Uganda Airlines’ growth journey and in our broader ambition to position Entebbe as a strategic aviation hub for the region,” Wake said.
He said the aircraft would improve Uganda’s links to regional, continental and international markets.
Wake added that the expansion would support tourism, trade, investment and cargo transport.
The Boeing 737-8 can carry between 160 and 180 passengers in a two-class arrangement. It can fly up to 6,480 kilometres.
Uganda Airlines plans to deploy the aircraft on routes within Africa and to the Middle East and India.
The larger Boeing 787-9 can fly up to 15,370 kilometres. It will serve long-haul routes to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president for Commercial Sales and Marketing, said the aircraft would help Uganda Airlines expand its network.
“We’re pleased to welcome Uganda Airlines as a Boeing customer and support the airline’s next phase of growth with the 737-8 and 787-9,” McMullen said.
He said the two aircraft models offer the range, flexibility and efficiency needed to serve different markets.
Uganda Airlines said the aircraft could cut fuel use by between 20 percent and 25 percent compared with the planes they replace.
The agreement will also cover training, technical support and capacity building.
Wake said the partnership would help strengthen the airline’s operations and support Uganda’s economic growth.
Uganda Airlines currently flies to 17 destinations in 13 countries from Entebbe International Airport.
