Uganda, UK Discuss Stronger Military Ties

Kiryowa Kiwanuka met UK defence minister Lord Coaker in London

Defence Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka met Lord Coaker in London to discuss stronger Uganda-UK military cooperation.

Uganda’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, has met the UK Minister of State for Defence Diplomacy, Lord Coaker, in London for talks on military cooperation and regional security.

Director Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi, said Kiwanuka visited Lord Coaker at the UK Ministry of Defence headquarters in London on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Col Magezi said the two ministers discussed ways to deepen Uganda-UK defence ties, with a focus on military cooperation, regional security and capacity building.

He said the meeting showed both countries’ shared commitment to strengthening their strategic defence partnership.

Kiwanuka also invited Lord Coaker to visit Uganda in the near future.

The Ugandan minister was accompanied by Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK, Nimisha Madhvani, and Brig Gen Geoffrey Karugaba, the Defence Adviser at the Uganda High Commission in London.
