Uganda’s oil projects are advancing steadily as the country prepares to start commercial production, according to the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).
UIA said the Tilenga project was 74 per cent complete by June 30, 2026, after contractors drilled 234 wells, exceeding the minimum 170 wells required for production.
The Kingfisher project had reached 79 per cent completion, with the Central Processing Facility and feeder pipeline nearing completion.
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which will transport crude oil from Uganda’s oil fields to Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, was 90 per cent complete. More than 1,443 kilometres of pipeline had been welded across Uganda and Tanzania.
The Uganda Refinery Project was also progressing, with pre-Final Investment Decision technical studies 28 per cent complete by the end of June 2026.
UIA said the milestones show continued progress towards Uganda’s first oil production and the infrastructure needed to support the commercialisation of the country’s petroleum resources.
The oil projects are part of Uganda’s broader plan to develop its petroleum sector, which includes crude oil production, transportation and refining facilities.
