The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the final timetable for the 2026 national examinations and directed schools to give each of the more than 1.6 million registered candidates a copy.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo unveiled the timetable at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on September 23, 2026. He said heads of examination centres could download it from their school portals. UNEB will also distribute printed copies with examination stationery.
UCE candidates will attend their briefing on October 8, before written examinations begin the following week. PLE candidates will be briefed on October 30, while the UACE briefing is set for November 6. Written papers for both groups will start in the weeks after their briefings.
Odongo said UNEB had registered 1,627,885 candidates for PLE, UCE and UACE by the close of September 22. The number is up by 211,437, or 14.9 per cent, from 2025. Girls account for 52 per cent of the candidates.
About 52 per cent of the candidates receive government support through universal education programmes. The total includes 6,090 learners with special educational needs.
This year, UNEB will assess the third UCE group under the Competency-Based Curriculum. The UACE candidates were the first group to sit UCE under the new curriculum in 2024.
The final timetable is also available on UNEB’s website and social media pages. Its release follows a warning from the board against an unofficial version that had circulated online.
