President Yoweri Museveni met with Starlink representatives Ben MacWilliams, Director of Starlink Market Access, and Brandi Oliver, Manager of Global Licensing and Market Activation, at State House in Nakasero. The meeting was facilitated by Uganda's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, and U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, William Popp.

In a post on X, President Museveni shared his appreciation for Starlink’s commitment to providing affordable internet in remote areas. He welcomed the company’s plans to establish operations in Uganda, saying, “They are welcome.”

Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX owned by Elon Musk, has recently submitted an application to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to gain approval to operate in Uganda. The company plans to use a constellation of low-earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet directly to users via small dishes that can be installed by customers.

Founded in 2020, Starlink is currently operational in over 70 countries, including several African nations like Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, and Malawi.
