Uganda Airlines has launched scheduled flights to Accra, Ghana, today, marking another step in its efforts to expand air connections between East and West Africa.
The national carrier will operate four weekly flights from Entebbe International Airport to Kotoka International Airport in Accra, with a stopover in Lagos, Nigeria.
The service will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft leased from Ethiopian Airlines. Uganda Airlines has advertised promotional return fares starting at $550 (about Shs 2 million).
The new route builds on the airline's existing operations in Nigeria, where it serves Lagos and Abuja. It will provide another travel option for passengers flying between Uganda and Ghana for business, tourism and family visits.
Uganda Airlines acting chief executive officer Girma Wake earlier said the expansion would strengthen Entebbe's position as a regional aviation hub.
"We are making five times a week to Lagos. It is an extension of that to Ghana, just one additional hour, but it builds up gradually because Ghana can support a flight on its own and Nigeria can support a flight on its own," Wake said.
The airline expects the route to support trade, investment and tourism under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
To promote business opportunities, Uganda Airlines and its partners will hold a Ghana-Uganda Trade and Business Forum in Accra on October 28, bringing together investors, government officials and tourism stakeholders.
The Accra service also forms part of the carrier's wider expansion strategy. Uganda Airlines plans to introduce daily flights to Kigali, Rwanda, on November 18, 2026, as it seeks to strengthen connections across its growing international network.
