President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow, Friday, delivered a national address focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic “and matters of national interest”, the Uganda Media Centre said in a tweet Thursday afternoon.

According to the tweet, the address will be broadcast at 8pm on television and radio stations.

President Museveni is currently at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership retreat. Museveni is the NRM chairman.

The Kampala Post on Wednesday reported that the president would commence regular updates, guiding the country on how to deal with coronavirus as its containment remains uncertain due to new variants that keep emerging.

The president is expected to comment on, among others, whether the curfew time will be maintained at 9pm-5:30am in the morning or there will be changes.

Businesses like bars also remain closed and it’s not yet clear when they will be re-opened.

"The President will in the coming days be addressing the Nation with more details on this matter of curfew, where we are in the fight against Covid 19 and what more steps need to be taken to keep our people safe," Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda recently said.

While the government is aware of the impact of the continued movement restrictions, the prime minister noted, scientists maintain that "the threat and scourge of Covid-19 is still very much with us."

According to the ministry of health, on April 14, 26 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed, bringing the total to 41,263. 40898 people have recovered and the respiratory illness has claimed 338 lives.
