Italy’s Ambassador Mazzanti Bids Farewell to Gen Kainerugaba

The Ambassador of Italy to Uganda, Massimiliano Mazzanti, bid farewell to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Entebbe, marking the end of his tenure in Uganda.

During his time as Ambassador since 2019, both leaders have had cordial conversations and memorable moments including the General’s birthday dinner at State House that was also attended by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda last year.

Ambassador Mazzanti's achievements during his tenure have had a profound impact on the bilateral relationship between Italy and Uganda. Some of his notable achievements are evident in the health sector, refugee support, defence and security among others.

In the health sector, Ambassador Mazzanti facilitated a partnership between Italy and Uganda in August 2021. This support was directed towards the Karamoja Infrastructure Development, contributing to the development of the health sector.

The Italian envoy also played a pivotal role in establishing the Italian Cooperation Agency office in Kampala, enhancing collaboration and partnership between Italy and Uganda.

As part of strengthening ties, Ambassador Mazzanti initiated formal intelligence cooperation between Italy and Uganda.

He also fostered a significant forest partnership between Italy and the Government of Uganda, specifically with the Ministry of Education and Sports, to promote conservation and environmental initiatives within schools.

The Ambassador played a crucial role in kick-starting the training of Uganda wildlife rangers in collaboration with the Italian Carabinieri and the Ministry of Tourism.

Support During COVID-19

Ambassador Mazzanti secured 3.5 million COVID-19 vaccines for Uganda and provided two respirators, contributing to Uganda's healthcare capacity during the challenging period of the pandemic.

These achievements highlight Ambassador Mazzanti's dedication and commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between Italy and Uganda across various critical sectors. His contributions will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy in the collaborative efforts between the two countries.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed appreciation for Ambassador Mazzanti's friendship and numerous achievements while in Uganda.
