Aine Godfrey Kaguta Sodo, President Museveni’s younger brother has stepped down from Mawogola North MP race One day to the D-day (Polling day) giving an advantage to foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa's daughter Shartsi Musherure.

The two first competed for NRM ticket and failed to agree and both were denied ticket and came as independent candidates.

Speaking to NTV, Mr Aine said that a family meeting was summoned on Sunday and it was agreed that he quits the race in favour of Shartsi.

According to Sodo, the family meeting was attended by President Museveni, Gen Salim Saleh, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Hon Sam Kutesa, Shartsi and her twin sister, Mrs Charlotte Kainerugaba. The meeting was also attended by President Museveni's two other brothers; Michael Toyota and Shadrack Nzeire.

Sodo said that he could not defy his family and party chairman whom he regards as his father.

"This is my family and President Museveni is our party chairman. The family decided and once mzee makes a decision, we take it as a command."

Sodo also noted that he organised a meeting between President Museveni and his campaign team composed of 30 people.

"I took my coordinators to meet mzee so that they could get an explanation from him personally," Sodo said.

Both Shartsi and Sodo were standing as independent tickets after the National Resistance Movement– NRM party failed to agree on which candidate to front.

With the stepping down of Sodo from the hitherto two horse race, it is now almost a sure win for Shartsi.
