Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi on Tuesday met all Commanders in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area to discuss joint security measures to rid the City of crime.
The meeting attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, also included representatives from other security agencies, Police Directors, Regional Police Commanders, District Police Commanders, Divisional Commanders, Intelligence officers, and detectives.
The meeting was held at Police Headquarters in Naguru. The engagement aims at devising means of enhancing joint security initiatives to make the City and surrounding areas safer for all Ugandans. Issues discussed included enhanced intelligence led operations, targeted deployments and patrols, profiling of known criminals (serial offenders), community policing, drug abuse investigations, community mobilization and observance of human rights in policing.
The joint security meeting comes at a time the City and its periphery is witnessing a surge in cases of armed robbery and murder, targeting boda boda cyclists, Mobile Money agents and other business operators. Last month armed thugs ridding on motorcycles staged a broad day robbery at Cheap Hardware Shop in Nansana, Wakiso District, shooting three dead and taking off with millions of money.
Similar incidents have occurred in Natete and other City suburbs. A number of suspects have since been rounded up and guns recovered as security struggles to bring this criminality to an end.
