Police have identified a disturbing pattern of criminals sedating passengers on buses, according to ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the police spokesperson, who issued a statement on Monday, November 11.
The spokesperson reported that on 5 November, Amon Basikana, aged 24, was drugged on a Jaguar company bus (registration number UBN 307 T) and subsequently robbed of his belongings. He is currently receiving treatment at Katuna Border.
The following day, 6 November, at around 05:00 hours, three passengers on another Jaguar bus (registration number UBN 260 T) travelling from Kampala to Kigali were also sedated and robbed of their mobile phones, cash, and other valuables. The victims were admitted to Kabale Referral Hospital in critical condition.
In response, police are consulting with bus company management to tackle this rising concern.
"We urge the public to remain vigilant and cautious when consuming meals during journeys," said Kituuma. "Perpetrators often lure victims into consuming food or drinks laced with sedatives before robbing them."
