The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 5th Infantry Division has recovered more than 30 head of cattle following a coordinated security operation in parts of East Acholi aimed at curbing cattle rustling.
The operation was carried out under a wider security campaign codenamed Dumisha Usalama. It took place between February 2 and February 4, 2026. It covered the areas of Lokokwai in Kitgum District, Amita Village in Abim District, and Loborom Village in Agago District.
During the three-day operation, four armed Karamojong warriors were neutralised. Troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition, bows and arrows, and three mobile phones.
The Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, Major General Keith Katungyi, assured communities within the division’s area of responsibility of continued protection. He said sustained operations would continue to deter cattle rustling and other forms of insecurity.
He added that heightened vigilance by the forces ensured no livestock was stolen, with all animals in the affected areas secured without loss.
The UPDF reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at maintaining peace and stability in East Acholi.
