President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched the Kigezi Zonal Industrial Hub in Kabale District, an initiative aimed at equipping 12,000 youth annually with practical skills to boost employment and economic growth.
Located in Mulambo Village, Bulanga Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-County, the hub offers training in carpentry, bakery, tailoring, hairdressing, shoe-making, and welding. President Museveni announced the expansion of the program to include plumbing, motor mechanics, and electrical installation.
“We will continue to expand the skills training here, ensuring that our children are fully equipped for the job market,” Museveni said.
The President commended parents for embracing free vocational training and reaffirmed his commitment to developing similar hubs across the country. He also contributed 40 million shillings to four outstanding trainees and 20 million shillings to the Youth SACCO to support their entrepreneurial ventures.
Despite these efforts, Museveni expressed concern over the increasing number of school dropouts, urging parents to take advantage of free education programs. He reiterated the government’s plan to establish a primary school in every parish and a secondary school in each sub-county to reduce the financial burden on families.
Catherine Ndamira, the Woman MP for Kabale District, praised the initiative, saying it would empower youth with practical skills for self-reliance.
Industrial hub instructor Pascal Tibaijuka applauded the government’s commitment, noting that 247 students had already benefited from the training.
“This project has transformed our community. Many students who faced challenges due to lack of school resources can now acquire skills and participate in the money economy,” Tibaijuka said.
The event was attended by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Members of Parliament, and other local leaders.
