The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has urged students at Kings College Budo to pursue careers grounded in patriotism, discipline, and national service during the school’s annual Career Day held this week.
Major Bilal Katamba, Acting Deputy Director of Defence Public Information, led the UPDF delegation and encouraged students to view the military not only as a career but also as a platform to serve and protect their country.
“Embrace patriotism, discipline, and a commitment to serving Uganda,” Major Katamba told students.
The event brought together institutions and professionals, offering students firsthand insights into various career paths and opportunities for higher education and personal development.
Dr. Connie Nshemereirwe, Director at Future Africa and the keynote speaker, urged students to aim high and remain open to new possibilities. She emphasized the importance of passion and adaptability in building a successful career.
“Once you’re done with school and happen to get a job, use that chance to get another job,” she said, warning against complacency and encouraging continuous growth.
Kings College Budo Head Teacher, Canon John Fred Kazibwe, praised the event as a critical component of the school’s mission to equip learners for the future.
“Career guidance is a cornerstone of our academic mission,” Kazibwe said. “We carefully selected each speaker and institution to offer relevant inspiration and direction.”
The Career Day featured exhibitions from several prominent organizations, including Uganda Christian University, DFCU Bank, Uganda Police, TotalEnergies, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. Each showcased diverse career and education pathways for students to consider.
The event highlighted the importance of informed decision-making, purpose-driven ambition, and national pride in shaping the next generation of Ugandan leaders.
