Over 1,000 Ugandans are set to benefit from new employment opportunities following the launch of the Hiinga Karis Medical Hospital and Karis Nursing University, a private health project commissioned by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Magere, Wakiso District.

The project, which blends medical innovation with education is expected to create jobs for doctors, nurses, technicians, construction workers, and administrative staff once fully operational.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, President Museveni praised the initiative as a reflection of how private investment can power national development.

“When you invest in health, you save lives, create jobs, and build wealth,” Museveni said. “This hospital will employ more than 1,000 people directly and many others indirectly. That’s what we mean by productive investment.”

The Hiinga Karis Medical Hospital and Karis Nursing University will be developed in phases, offering specialized services and training programs aimed at strengthening Uganda’s human resource base in the health sector.

Samuel Niiro, the Executive Director of Hiinga Karis, said the project is designed to respond to both health and employment needs.

“We are creating a space where healing meets opportunity. From construction to hospital operations, Ugandans will be part of every stage,” Niiro said.

The project aligns with the NRM government’s broader vision of socio-economic transformation through private-sector growth, particularly in health, education, and industry.

Local leaders in Wakiso welcomed the project, noting that it would stimulate local enterprise and open up business opportunities for youth and small suppliers in the area.

As Uganda continues to expand access to specialized medical services, the launch of Hiinga Karis Medical Hospital signals more than just new infrastructure, it marks a growing belief that private investment can heal, employ, and empower communities all at once.
