Mulago Hospital stops collecting Covid-19 samples

The ministry of health announced on Wednesday that Mulago Hospital will no longer be used as a sample collection site for people testing for the coronavirus.

According to the ministry, the national referral hospital will only be used for treatment and isolation of Covid-19 patients.

"Mulago National Referral Hospital has been closed as a COVID-19 sample collection site for all individuals," the ministry said.

"Mulago NRH will remain an isolation and COVID-19 Treatment Unit ONLY for all patients who have been confirmed for COVID-19."

Mulago hospital is one of the health facilities that has been collecting samples of Covid19 patients.  But there are tens of other labs (both government-owned and private) countrywide that are collecting samples.

Other treatment points are Entebbe Grade B Hospital, Gulu hospital, Arua hospital, Masaka hospital, Mubende hospital, Lira hospital, Jinja hospital, Mbale, Mbarara, Soroti. Hoima and so on.

In a July update, the ministry said they had prepared 3,200 isolation beds, 378 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds in national, regional, general hospitals and health center IVs. 

Uganda, as of August 26, had a commutative tally of 2426 cases of COVID-19, 1267 recoveries, and 25 deaths, according to the health ministry figures.
