Two legislators have been cleared to return to Parliament having completed their mandatory 14 day COVID-19 quarantine.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Tuesday told parliament that Nakifuma County MP Ssekitoleeko Kafeero and Kabula County MP James Kakooza had successfully completed their quarantine and had been issued with certificate of completion from the Ministry of Health.

The two MPs are among other legislators at large who returned back from abroad by March 21 shortly being the lockdown.

MPs last week raised an alarm claiming that some MPs who travelled abroad were a health threat to them because they had skipped the mandatory self-isolation measure and were still associating with them.

This prompted Speaker Kadaga to block all MPs who recently returned from abroad from entering Parliament until they had been cleared by the Ministry of Health. Among those include; MPs sitting on the Pan African Parliament where MP Kakooza belongs. PAP MPs had returned from South Africa on 15th March and have since then been mingling with other legislators in the awake of COVID19.

Other PAP MPs include; Anifa Kawooya, Jacqueline Amongin, Ogenga Latigo and Felix Ogong. Other MPs who have been previously kicked out of Parliament over Coronavirus include; Anthony Akol, Cissy Namujju, and Ssempala Kigozi.

Similarly, Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng also tabled on the floor of parliament her certificate and air ticket to dispute allegations that she floated quarantine regulations, adding that she returned from South Africa on 5th, March.

As of today, Uganda’s confirmed cases still stood at 52 with no recovery or death registered yet.
