The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will foot medical bills for its assaulted supporter , 21-year old Baker Kasumba. The ruling party will also ensure that the suspects are brought to book, Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba who visited the victim in hospital on Friday morning has pledged.

“Today, our Secretary General Justine Lumumba visited Kasumba Baker, our supporter who was assaulted by mysterious criminals yesterday,” the NRM party tweeted. “She sympathized with him, & assured him the party will, in addition to footing his medical bills, ensure that his assailers are brought to book.” The ruling party added.

Kasumba, a resident of Avis Kivulu in Kawempe Division was on Wednesday night attacked by two unidentified men believed to be opposition supporters. He was hit on the head and left unconscious with his hands nailed together. The attack happened near Kalerwe Flyover as the young man returned home from work at around 10 pm.

According to police, the assailants ran away after two approaching women made an alarm alerting the police at Kalerwe. The police rushed the victim to Mulago Hospital, where he has been operated on to remove the six-inch nails from his palms.

On Thursday Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said the matter is being investigated. He added however that the attack could be politically motivated since the staunch NRM supporter had earlier been confronted by an unidentified man who warned him against supporting NRM and President Museveni.

“According to Kasumba, on Sunday 25/8/2019, a man approached him at his workplace and confronted him to stop supporting NRM and President Y.K Museveni. This was a planned and an organized attack,” Onyango said adding that the attackers seem to have trailed the victim who was donning the yellow NRM beret all the way from his workplace.
