Fire guts dormitory at Uganda Martyr's SS Namugongo

Kira Division Police have commenced investigations into a fire outbreak that happened at Uganda Martyr's SS Namugongo in Namugongo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District.

Police say the fire, which broke out Saturday at 6am, started from a two-storied building which was a dormitory for senior two and senior three students.

Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded at the scene and the fire was later put out.

“A lot of property (personal effects for students) has been destroyed,” police said in a statement. ‘There were no students at the time.”

Police say they are still investigating to ascertain what exactly caused the fire and samples have been picked and exhibited.

Schools in the central region, including Gayaza High School and Namirembe Hillside Highschool, have recently suffered fire outbreaks.
