UCAA speaks on 'SOPs for re-opening Entebbe Airport'

"We have noted widespread circulation of these draft protocols for resumption of passenger flight operations, which were prematurely shared. The slides are only part of a major presentation of SOPs that has been discussed with stakeholders, and is yet to be concluded," UCAA said in a Saturday statement.

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has said the document that has been circulating, showing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will guide the reopening Entebbe International Airport, is not final.

The authority said while it drafted the said SOPs, they are being discussed with stakeholders and a final one will be released in due time.

"We have noted widespread circulation of these draft protocols for resumption of passenger flight operations, which were prematurely shared. The slides are only part of a major presentation of SOPs that has been discussed with stakeholders, and is yet to be concluded," UCAA said in a Saturday statement.

"The final document will have various changes, which have already been considered and will be officially shared in a different format from PowerPoint slides. Please ignore the premature discussion of the draft SOPs."

Entebbe Airport was closed from receiving passenger flights in March as the country initiated a lockdown to limit the importation of the coronavirus.

The country has so far registered 1434 cases of the virus, 1142 recoveries, and 13 deaths.

The country's approach to fend off the virus has been hailed globally, with the most recent acclaim coming from Research by Michael Barber, a former adviser to U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Idris Jala, who did a similar job for Malaysia’s Najib Razak.
