Uganda collected US$69.93 million (about Shs246.9 billion) from exporting coffee in the month of July, the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) said in a statement.

In June, coffee exports stood at $ 58.56 million (about Shs207 billion.

UCDA says the country sold 700,035 bags worth 60kg at an average weighted price of $1.66 per kg, 8 cents higher than $1.58 per kg in June.

“This was an increase of 29% [and] 39% increase in quantity [and] value compared to the same month last year,” says the Authority.

UCDA Managing Director Emmanuel Iyamulemye said the earnings were record-breaking as they hadn’t scored this since the liberalization of the sector.

“We applaud Ugandans who have embraced coffee as a business. UCDA will continue to reach out to churches, schools & cultural institutions to include coffee growing in their development projects,” he went on.

Uganda mainly exports coffee to Italy, Germany, India, Sudan, Morocco, Kenya, Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Africa.
