Imara Girls Festival Launched

The Imara Girls Festival, an event that seeks to amplify the voices of young girls in Uganda, was launched. The launch was graced by celebrated figures like Lydia Jazmine, Miss Uganda Hannah Karema, Maria Odido, an entrepreneur and Solome Nakaweesi, a pan-African feminist activist and chairperson at FOWODE.

"The festival will unite girls, providing them with an opportunity to meet their role models, express their thoughts, and gain valuable advice on navigating the world as women, among other valuable insights," Nakaweesi said during the launch held at the Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) offices in Ntinda, Kampala.

Themed 'Interrogating The Diversity of Spaces for Women in Politics, Economics, Arts, and Business',  the event will feature performances from musicians and a thought-provoking panel discussion. Some of the singers that are expected include Naava Grey, Spice Diana, Lillian Mbabazi, Irene Ntale, Sheebah Karungi, Laila, Gabie Ntaate, Karole Kasita, Sandra Sub, and Martha Music.

Lydia Jazmine said that the festival perfectly aligns with the vision she had for her organization Silent Voices, which didn't go so far, having halted its operations during the Covid pandemic. "I have always nurtured the aspiration of empowering girls and women through my organization. Recognizing that the festival aligns with this very goal, I felt compelled to join forces with them," Jazmine explained.

The Imara Girls Festival is set to take place on September 16 at Kati Kati Grounds in Kampala.
