President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda.

The President also named Her Worship Agnes Alum to serve as the new Chief Registrar in a significant shuffle of the judicial leadership.

State House announced the appointments on Thursday morning as part of the government's efforts to strengthen the judiciary.

The name of the new Deputy Chief Justice has already been forwarded to Parliament for formal vetting. Justice Kazibwe will take office once the parliamentary appointments committee approves his nomination.

The appointment of Justice Kazibwe Kawumi follows a career of distinguished service within the Ugandan courts. Legal experts view the promotion as a move to enhance the administrative efficiency of the Court of Appeal. Meanwhile, Agnes Alum assumes her role as Chief Registrar to oversee the day-to-day management of court records and judicial staff. Both appointees bring extensive legal experience to their new high-ranking positions.

Parliament is expected to convene shortly to review the President’s nominees. The appointments come at a time when the judiciary is working to clear case backlogs across all court levels. State House confirmed that these changes are effective immediately, pending the necessary legislative approvals.
