The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorized Infantry Division has completed a leadership transition within its central administrative docket following a formal military handover ceremony.
The transition took place at the Division Headquarters on Monday. The Division Commander, Major General Charles Byanyima, presided over the ceremonial transfer of command authority.
He supervised the official handover from the outgoing Division Operations and Training Officer (DOTO), Colonel Esibio Obuyere Omaria, to the incoming officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Taremwa Kamuntu. Military leaders noted that such routine appointments remain vital for sustaining tactical modernization and maintaining top-tier combat readiness across the infantry ranks.
Major General Byanyima commended Colonel Omaria for his exceptional professional endurance and institutional dedication during his tenure. He noted that the outgoing officer played a definitive role in elevating the structural readiness and field execution capacities of the entire division.
Colonel Omaria thanked the high command for the opportunity to serve at the helm of the technical training wing, emphasizing that the strategic support of his colleagues helped achieve core training goals.

The incoming Operations and Training Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kamuntu, expressed deep gratitude to the UPDF leadership for assigning him the sensitive operational portfolio.
He pledged to work hand-in-hand with the existing staff to push tactical efficiency and institutional training standards to higher levels.
Senior and junior UPDF officers, alongside Brigade Operations and Training Officers, stood at attention to witness the final exchange of office files and structural symbols of authority.
