The UPDF has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise from July 20 to August 1, 2026, and warned applicants against paying money to individuals claiming to influence the process.

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise scheduled to run from July 20 to August 1, 2026, across all districts of Uganda.

The announcement was made by UPDF Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi at the Uganda Media Centre.  He said shortlisted candidates will be published on the UPDF website ahead of the recruitment process.

Magezi said applicants who make the shortlist will be required to present handwritten application letters, recommendation letters from designated local leaders, and valid national identity cards during the recruitment exercise.

He emphasized that all recruitment into the UPDF is conducted free of charge and cautioned the public against individuals seeking money in exchange for recruitment assistance.

“Recruitment into the UPDF is free,” Magezi said, urging applicants to report anyone demanding payment or promising preferential treatment during the exercise.

The UPDF conducts periodic recruitment drives to enlist qualified Ugandans into military service and strengthen the capacity of the armed forces.

Magezi advised prospective applicants to follow only official communication channels for updates regarding the recruitment process and shortlist publication.
