PLU’s Basaliza Honours Fallen Comrades

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) paused to honour its fallen comrades, particularly Patriotic Officer No. 009, the late Cedric Babu Ndilima as the organization officially inaugurated Hon. Fadil Twalla as its new Secretary General during a handover/takeover ceremony at the organization headquarters in Naguru.

Presided over by Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Oboth Oboth as Chief Guest, the event marked a defining chapter in the organization's institutional growth. Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba commended Speaker Oboth for gracing the occasion and ensuring a seamless transition, while congratulating Twalla on assuming the administrative docket. The Chairman was represented at the function by National Vice Chairman Mr. Nuwagira Michael Toyota, who supervised the official proceedings.

The ceremony drew at least 214 Members of Parliament, religious leaders, business figures, and a strong government delegation of 22 cabinet ministers, including Hon. Ruth Jane Aceng, Hon. Kiwanuka Kiryowa, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, and Hon. Balaam Barugahara. Also present were NRM Central Executive Committee members and PLU Central Committee officials, including Edwin Karugire.

Delivering remarks, Deputy Prime Minister of Tooro and senior PLU member Henry Basaliza requested a moment of silence to honour all departed comrades who dedicated themselves to national service. In a special tribute, Basaliza remembered Patriotic Officer No. 009, the late Cedric Babu Ndilima, describing him as a committed patriot and inspirational leader whose legacy remains firmly embedded in the organization's history. "Though he is no longer with us, his contributions to our growth and visibility will never be forgotten," Basaliza stated.

Reflecting on the organization's journey, Basaliza noted that the leadership change represents both growth and maturity. He highlighted the introduction of Patriotic Officer Numbers as a milestone that elevates membership into a greater sense of duty, responsibility, and commitment to Uganda's socio-economic transformation.

Appointed by Gen. Muhoozi on June 15 to replace outgoing SG Hon. David Kabanda, Twalla's assumption of office signals PLU's continued focus on strengthening its leadership structures. Outgoing SG Kabanda was represented during the official handover by Head of Mobilization Hon. Michael Mawanda.

In his congratulatory message, Gen. Muhoozi reaffirmed the membership's unwavering support for Twalla's leadership. "I congratulate our comrade Hon. Fadil Twalla on assuming the high office of General Secretary of the Mighty PLU. As committed members, we pledge to work together in advancing the organisation’s vision, mission, and objectives," he stated.

The leadership change is part of PLU's broader strategy to consolidate grassroots support, strengthen ties with the NRM, and streamline its executive functions across Uganda, ensuring that the dream of a united, prosperous nation, for which its fallen comrades gave their all, continues to move forward.
