President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has defended the aggressive anti-corruption field inspections conducted by Hon. Barugahara and Hon. Nameere.
The Head of State rejected public criticism that the ministers were acting impulsively without sufficient preparation.
President Museveni noted that entrenched impunity and brazen theft of public resources justify direct grassroots interventions.
He cited widespread public outrage over graft within the Parish Development Model (PDM), the illegal sale of local government jobs in Bunyoro, and ghost beneficiaries in government schools and health centres.
To turn findings into legal accountability, the President urged the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to assign dedicated officers to swiftly process emerging evidence for court prosecution.
President Museveni identified institutional cover-ups by custodians of national interests and the silence of informed elites as the primary drivers of corruption.
He praised the ministers for using community barazas to bypass bureaucratic bottlenecks created by corrupt networks.
The President commended patriotic officials who expose illicit schemes, citing Hon. Byamukama for uncovering an extortion ring within State House that led to arrests.
“Do not cover-up if you are a Government officer and report if you are a citizen,” President Museveni stated.
He explained that previous interventions lacked firmness, noting that former Minister Magyezi had investigated similar public complaints without achieving decisive outcomes.
Mass citizen participation in the current anti-graft barazas reflects the voluntary mobilization seen during the early days of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
President Museveni concluded by reaffirming that corruption in Uganda remains entirely beatable through decisive collective action.
