The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Dr. Huda Abason Oleru, held separate high-level bilateral engagements with delegations from the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya.
The discussions centered on strengthening defence diplomacy, regional security dynamics, and Uganda’s participation in international Peace Support Operations.
Hon. Oleru reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to continental stability, underscoring the Pan-African principle of resolving regional conflicts through African-led initiatives.
“Uganda remains committed to the Pan-African framework of finding African solutions to African problems,” Hon. Oleru said.
The Danish delegation was led by Mr. Ketil Iversen Karlsen, Head of the Africa Department at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Denmark’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Signe Winding Albjerg, and Political Assistant Ms. Nina Guldbaek Van Leeuwen.
Talks between Hon. Oleru and the Danish envoys focused on expanding bilateral defence cooperation and exploring shared strategic security interests.
In a separate meeting with the Dutch delegation, led by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda, H.E. Angèle Samura, Hon. Oleru commended the Netherlands for its ongoing technical assistance and specialized military law capacity-building.
She specifically highlighted Dutch support for legal and operational training programs conducted at the UPDF Legal Training Centre in Jinja.
The Danish and Dutch envoys commended Uganda for its role in maintaining regional stability and recognized the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for their contributions to multinational peace-support missions.
The meetings were attended by senior MODVA and UPDF leadership, including the Chief of Joint Staff, Lt. Gen. Jack Bakasumba; Undersecretary for Finance and Administration, Mrs. Edith Buturo; and Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Brig. Gen. Oscar Munanura.
The Dutch delegation also included the Defence Attaché, Lt. Col. Jeroen van der Nol, and First Secretary, Mr. Odde de Jong.
