Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officially transitioned to new leadership after a formal handover ceremony on Friday 27th September 2024. The shift follows the dismissal of Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, along with two other senior officials, over negligence in the handling of the Kiteezi landfill disaster, which tragically claimed over 30 lives.
Frank Nyakaana Rusa, the KCCA's Director of Legal Affairs, was officially appointed as the Acting Executive Director, taking over the reins from Kisaka.
Joining Rusa in the interim leadership are Robert Nowera, who has been appointed as the Acting Deputy Executive Director, replacing David Luyimbazi, and Sarah Zalwango, who will serve as the Acting Director of Public Health and Environment.
During the handover ceremony, the incoming leadership pledged to maintain continuity in KCCA's operations while also introducing new measures to improve service delivery and enhance transparency. They emphasized their commitment to addressing the challenges facing Kampala, including the aftermath of the Kiteezi landfill disaster.
"We are determined to build upon the foundation laid by our predecessors and to serve the people of Kampala with integrity and dedication," Rusa stated. "Our priority is to ensure that the city continues to progress and that the needs of its residents are met."
As the new interim team takes office, Kampala residents are hopeful that the change in leadership will bring about positive changes and a renewed focus on the city's development.
