President Yoweri Museveni has offered to mediate the ongoing conflict in Sudan, stating his readiness to help resolve the crisis if the warring parties are open to his involvement. He made this commitment during a meeting with the United Nations Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, at State House Entebbe.
“I am ready to mediate the conflict if they are agreeable,” said Museveni, stressing the importance of dialogue and cooperation for peace. He emphasized that the root of Sudan’s troubles lies in identity politics, which undermines national unity in a diverse country. Museveni urged the factions to agree on a ceasefire and hand power to the people of Sudan.
UN Envoy Lamamra welcomed Museveni's offer and assured him of the United Nations' support. “We are ready and willing to work with you in restoring peace,” he said. Lamamra also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where ongoing violence continues to endanger civilians despite efforts to broker local ceasefires.
The meeting was attended by Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, and senior UN officials Nayla Hajjar and Hanan Elbadawy.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict, with fighting between rival factions raising concerns over instability and a growing humanitarian emergency.
