Luuka District Women League Chairperson and NRM flag bearer for Woman MP, Annet Nabirye, has urged residents to embrace reconciliation, peace, and unity as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Speaking on Saturday, August 2, 2025, during a thanksgiving concert dubbed "Ekibinuko Twegaite" at Luuka District Headquarters, Nabirye called on her supporters and party members to set aside differences that may have emerged during the NRM primaries and work together for the good of the party and country.
“The primaries may have created divisions, but this is the time to reconcile and unite for the betterment of NRM and Uganda,” Nabirye said.
The event, which attracted thousands of people, was organized to thank the electorate for her landslide victory in the party primaries. According to the NRM Electoral Commission, Nabirye polled 38,186 votes, defeating incumbent Esther Mbayo who secured 8,111 votes.
Nabirye urged other Women League Chairpersons across the country to promote political harmony and foster inclusive engagement ahead of the elections. She also emphasized loyalty to the NRM and its core values.
“NRM is bigger than all of us. We must uphold its four principles because they are key to our national development,” she added.
She rallied voters to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in the upcoming elections, promising continued development and transformation.
Justine Nameere, Senior Presidential Advisor on Greater Masaka Region Affairs and NRM flag bearer for Masaka City Woman MP, echoed Nabirye’s message. She encouraged voters not to be intimidated and to choose leaders who have their interests at heart.
“Don’t be intimidated. The NRM government brought democracy, and every citizen has the right to choose leaders who are selfless and focused on the people's wellbeing,” Nameere said.
The function featured a prayer session led by Rev. Canon Moses Dhikange from Central Busoga Diocese. Nabirye was also applauded by local leaders for championing socio-economic development in Luuka since entering the political arena.
Residents pledged their continued support for Nabirye and President Museveni as a vote of confidence in their leadership and contribution to the district’s progress.
The celebration was graced by performances from popular musicians including Ronald Mayinja, Catherine Kusasira, Gravity Omutujju, Phina Mugerwa, Jovan Luzinda, and other regional artistes.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including district councilors, NRM League leaders, government officials, and NRM parliamentary flag bearers.
