President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandan scientists to take a leading role in transforming the country into a science-driven economy. He made the remarks on Saturday, September 27, 2025, during a meeting with scientists and members of the innovation ecosystem at State House Entebbe.
The team, led by Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, briefed him on recent progress in advancing the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s vision for a modern, science-led economy.
The scientists outlined key milestones, including the development of electric vehicles, the production of diagnostic kits, standardization of natural medicines, and innovations in machine-building technologies. President Museveni praised their work, noting that scientists had “finally woken up” to their role in driving national transformation. He pledged continued government support to scale up their achievements.
The President also challenged the team to look beyond the past and focus on harnessing Uganda’s traditional knowledge, mechanizing it, and applying modern standards to create wealth and prosperity. “We must stop blaming colonialism and instead use our knowledge to transform our society,” he said.
Dr. Musenero thanked the President for his unwavering support to science, technology, and innovation. She said her ministry and its partners are committed to advancing Uganda’s transition into a science-led economy, stressing that the country is on the right path toward inclusive growth and industrial development.
