The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Wednesday, February 4, 2026, as the polling day for local government council elections in areas where voting was earlier postponed or not concluded.

In a press statement, the commission said the elections will be held in electoral areas where polling failed to take place or was disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances during the initial election period.

“The Electoral Commission informs political parties, candidates, voters and the general public that Wednesday, 4th February 2026, has been appointed as the polling day for local government council elections in the various electoral areas across the country where polling was not conducted or not concluded on the previously appointed polling dates,” the statement said.

According to the EC, the elections will cover chairpersons, directly elected councillors, women councillors, and councillors representing special interest groups, including youths, older persons, workers, and persons with disabilities.

The polls will be conducted at city, district, municipality, city division, sub-county, town council, and municipal division levels, where applicable.

Voting will take place at all designated polling stations in the affected areas, as well as at venues for the respective electoral colleges, starting at 7:00am and ending at 4:00pm. Counting and declaration of results will begin immediately after the close of polling, in accordance with the law.

The commission further advised political parties and independent candidates that each will be allowed to deploy a maximum of two polling agents per polling station.

In a related announcement, the EC confirmed that the same polling date will apply to district and sub-county local government council elections in Butebo District, following a postponement announced on January 22.

“The commission has now appointed the same date for the district-level and sub-county and town council-level elections in Butebo District,” the statement said.

Voters in Butebo District will elect the district chairperson, directly elected district councillors, district women councillors, sub-county chairpersons, sub-county directly elected councillors, and sub-county or town council women councillors.

Polling in Butebo will be conducted under universal adult suffrage from 7:00am to 4:00pm across all polling stations in the district.

EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama called on voters, candidates, and all stakeholders to participate peacefully and to observe the electoral laws, regulations, and guidelines.
