The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has called on the public to use digital platforms responsibly following concerns over rising misuse of social media.
The appeal comes after a ruling by the Constitutional Court of Uganda that annulled certain provisions of the Computer Misuse Amendment Act, 2022, sparking confusion among users about the legal framework governing online conduct.
UCC clarified that key provisions under the Computer Misuse Act, including those addressing cyber harassment and electronic fraud, remain in force.
The Commission added that other laws, such as the Uganda Communications Act and the Data Protection and Privacy Act, continue to regulate digital platforms.
Officials urged the public to act responsibly online and avoid engaging in harmful or illegal activities.
They also encouraged users to report cases of misuse to relevant authorities to support enforcement and maintain a safe digital environment.
