President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed the need for ideological clarity and discipline among National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders as the Kyankwanzi retreat entered its third day.

Addressing party members, the NRM National Chairman called for principled leadership anchored on dialogue, restraint, and national interest.

“The aim is to reject wrongdoing, not to take life,” he said, adding that “killing people is not strength, it is cowardice.”

Museveni emphasized that the Movement’s struggle has always been guided by principles rather than vengeance. He said leaders must prioritize peaceful resolution of conflicts.

He warned that lack of ideological clarity can lead to poor decision-making.

“Without clear principles, people make mistakes and act out of confusion,” he said.

The President urged leaders to base decisions on logic, fairness, and long-term national goals, particularly in areas such as governance and economic transformation.

He expressed optimism about Uganda’s future, citing patriotism, unity, and socio-economic transformation as key drivers of progress.

“The future is promising if guided by the right values,” he said.

Museveni also cautioned against dishonest practices in politics.

“There is no need for shortcuts like bribery and dishonesty,” he said.

He reminded leaders that public office is a duty of service, not a platform for personal gain. He called for the rejection of sectarianism and the preservation of national unity.

The retreat, held at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, has brought together NRM leaders and newly elected MPs for ideological orientation and policy guidance.

During the sessions, senior party leaders and facilitators have guided legislators on parliamentary processes, wealth creation, investment, and savings culture.

Former MPs also shared experiences on navigating parliamentary terms and preparing for life after public office.
