The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, has mourned Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
King Oyo was announced dead on August 27, 2026, aged 34.
In a statement, the Kyabazinga said he and the people of Busoga stood with the Tooro royal family and the kingdom during the mourning period.
“The people of Busoga and I join the Royal Family and the people of Tooro Kingdom in mourning the passing of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” he said.
The Kyabazinga described King Oyo as a visionary traditional leader whose work left a mark on Tooro, Uganda and beyond.
He praised the late King for his humility, leadership and commitment to protecting culture. He also credited him with inspiring a new generation.
“During this hour of profound grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and the entire people of Tooro Kingdom, who have lost a beloved King and a guiding force,” the Kyabazinga said.
King Oyo ascended the throne at the age of three in 1995 following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He led Tooro Kingdom for nearly 31 years.
The Kyabazinga said Uganda had lost an important voice and a respected cultural leader.
“In Omukama Oyo, Uganda has lost an important voice and a distinguished cultural leader whose legacy will endure for generations,” he said.
The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu also joined the Tooro royal family, the people of Tooro and traditional leaders in mourning King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. It conveyed its condolences on behalf of the Omusinga of Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma.
