A succession dispute has hit the Karuziika Palace following the selection of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the next Omukama of Tooro by the kingdom's succession committee.
Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale, sister to the late monarch, rejected Kijanangoma's appointment and described the hasty succession process during the royal mourning period as unacceptable interference.
“So please, for the love of my brother, just be at peace... I just don't want these evil vultures to come and steal what he worked so hard for. So I'll continue to stand with my brother. May his soul rest in peace and let us grieve in peace. ....,” Princess Komuntale stated.
The Princess claimed that the succession committee's meeting was inconclusive and that another consultative round had been scheduled before the surprise public announcement was made.
Her position has been backed by key royal family figures, including Princess Elizabeth Bagaya and the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa, sparking a division between Oyo's immediate family and segments of the Babiito clan committee.
The dispute centers on a will executed by King Oyo prior to his passing in the United States.
The confrontation comes as Tooro Kingdom elders, religious leaders, and government officials prepare for King Oyo’s state burial at the Karambi Royal Tombs on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
