The coronation ceremony of the new Omukama of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The date was communicated by the head of the Babiito royal clan, Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, following key administrative and cultural deliberations with clan elders and the kingdom's supreme governing council, the Orukurato rw’Obukama bwa Tooro.
The announcement sets in motion formal traditional preparations to enthrone the 56-year-old monarch, formerly known as Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as the 13th King of Tooro.
Musuuga Kamurasi confirmed that the traditional coronation rites and public enthronement will be conducted at the Karuziika Royal Palace in Fort Portal City, bringing together cultural leaders, government delegations, and subjects from across the kingdom.
The development follows the unanimous resolution by the Tooro Supreme Council (Orukurato), which convened in Fort Portal to officially receive the Babiito clan's notification on the royal transition and formally approve Kijanangoma as king-designate.
The council subsequently mandated Musuuga Kamurasi and the royal clan structures to organize the enthronement rituals in line with established Tooro customs.
King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I succeeds his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026, in the United States and was laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The announcement of the coronation date comes amid mixed developments within the royal family.
The kingdom administration is expected to release a detailed itinerary of pre-coronation customary rituals, security guidelines, and guest accreditation in the coming days.
