The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched an intensive pre-mission training course for personnel designated for the United Nations Guard Unit 13 (UNGU XIII) at the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSO-TC) in Singo, Nakaseke District.
The training was officially opened by the Commandant of the Centre, Col. Moses Nabaasa, who outlined that the curriculum is structured to enhance operational readiness, mission survival skills, and tactical competence ahead of deployment in peace enforcement environments.
Col. Nabaasa noted that the course is engineered to evaluate physical endurance, sharpen tactical decision-making, and forge institutional character under demanding peacekeeping conditions.
“Pre-mission training is not a picnic. You are here to train for peacekeeping missions,” Col. Nabaasa warned the contingent, reminding them of the high-stakes operational realities involved in protecting UN personnel and vital installations.
He instructed the troops to maintain strict military discipline throughout the intensive training package, warning against conduct that compromises combat fitness, including excessive alcohol consumption.
Col. Nabaasa emphasized that maintaining balanced physical, mental, and psychological fitness remains essential for soldiers to carry out complex mandates under multinational peace support operations.
He encouraged the trainees to engage fully with the specialized instruction modules to guarantee mission success and protect Uganda's peacekeeping reputation on the continent.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chief Instructor at the Centre, Lt. Col. Morris Kimuku, alongside direct staff, senior officers, and field instructors.
