South Africa's Ramaphosa Set for Strategic Visit to Uganda to Bolster Bilateral Ties

South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa is set to travel Uganda for a two-day Working Visit from April 15-16. "The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of South Africa," the foreign affairs ministry said in an April 11 statement.

Ramaphosa in 2023 hosted President Yoweri Museveni who was in South Africa for the Uganda- South Africa Trade, Tourism, and Investment Summit, which took place from February 27 to March 1 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The event, which was organized by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in partnership with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Cooperatives, Privatisation and Investment -- sought to provide a platform for the Private sector, companies, and businesses to create new markets and ways of how facilitating doing business and identify existing and emerging business or investment opportunities in Uganda and South Africa.

The PSFU Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Asiimwe, said South Africa is one of the fastest growing sources of Foreign Direct Investment for Uganda as South Africa exports to Uganda. Asiimwe said that the main objective of the summit was to market Uganda’s beauty and economic potential of becoming Africa’s leading destination for Trade, Tourism, and Investment.

The second edition of the summit was held from September 7 - 8, 2023 at Speke Resort, Munyonyo. While in South Africa, the two presidents agreed to work together to improve the business operating environment between the two countries including addressing all challenges affecting the private sector.
