Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) has committed Shs215 million to the 2026 Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon as it returns for a fifth year as the event’s official hydration partner.

The marathon will take place in Kasese district on August 22, 2026, with runners competing in the 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km categories.

CCBU, which operates under the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa group, will supply Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water to runners across the four race categories.

The event enters its fifth edition as organisers push for stronger international recognition and seek to position it among leading road races.

The marathon has already introduced certified routes, professional timing systems and improved race operations. It also continues to attract runners from outside Uganda.

This year, organisers plan further upgrades to the race infrastructure, including a new finish arena and expanded facilities for athletes and spectators.

Government support has also increased as the marathon grows into a sports and tourism event for the Rwenzori region.

CCBU managing director Emmy Hashakimana said the marathon has created opportunities for communities while promoting the region.

“The Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon has become an important platform for bringing people together, creating economic opportunities and showcasing the beauty and potential of the Rwenzori region. We are proud to continue our partnership and provide hydration through Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water as thousands of runners take part in this inspiring event,” Hashakimana said.

He said the company also wanted its support to create value for communities.

“At Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, we are committed to doing business the right way by supporting initiatives that create shared value for communities while delivering a positive and memorable experience for consumers,” he said.

Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon team lead Amos Wekesa welcomed the renewed partnership, saying reliable access to water remains important for runners.

The marathon takes participants through parts of Kasese and the Rwenzori region, with the route also promoting the area’s scenery, culture and tourism potential.

Organisers hope the growing investment, improved infrastructure and international participation will help the event move closer to attaining World Athletics Gold Label status.
