Uganda Showcases Tourism Potential to Top U.S. Travel Operators

The Uganda Embassy in Washington, D.C., in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched a tourism expedition aimed at positioning Uganda as a premier luxury travel destination for high-net-worth individuals from the United States.

The eight-day tour, which began on June 19, brings six elite American tour operators—specializing in exclusive, billionaire-level travel experiences—to explore Uganda’s signature wildlife and cultural offerings.

Uganda’s Ambassador to the U.S., Amb. Robbie Kakonge, hosted the delegation to a welcome dinner at Latitude Hotel in Kampala, where she reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to promoting high-end tourism. The event was attended by Diana Museveni Kyaremera, the First Daughter, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), and leading private sector stakeholders including tourism entrepreneur Amos Wekesa.

“Our goal is to create stronger commercial linkages between Uganda’s tourism assets and global luxury markets,” said Amb. Kakonge. “By engaging these top-tier travel influencers, we are amplifying Uganda’s potential to attract high-spending travelers seeking authentic and exclusive experiences.”

Touring Uganda’s Pristine Wilds

The delegation’s itinerary features immersive visits to Uganda’s most iconic destinations, including Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, renowned for its population of endangered mountain gorillas.

Their first stop was at Primate Lodge Kibale, nestled within the forest park. Here, the group was welcomed with warm hospitality and treated to lunch while observing black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging through the trees—a moment that captured the awe of the visiting operators.

Later that day, the group proceeded to Ndali Lodge, where they conducted a comprehensive inspection of the property. Obrey Price, CEO of the lodge, guided the team through the facility and shared insights into its history and mission. Operating since 1996, Ndali Lodge reflects the commitment of Mr. Price, a British national, to Uganda’s sustainable tourism development.

“This lodge was built on the principle of conservation and community integration,” said Price. “It’s encouraging to see this level of global interest in what Uganda has to offer.”

Expanding Uganda’s Luxury Tourism Footprint

The tour is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to deepen its footprint in the global luxury tourism segment and showcase its unique ecological and cultural assets to a discerning clientele. According to UTB, such promotional efforts are essential to attracting travelers who seek meaningful, eco-conscious, and bespoke adventures.

As the journey continues through Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi, the operators will experience gorilla trekking, game drives, and community encounters designed to reflect Uganda’s charm, biodiversity, and warm hospitality.

Uganda’s tourism stakeholders hope that these firsthand experiences will translate into new itineraries, stronger referrals, and expanded representation of Uganda in top-tier global travel catalogs.
