Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa joined the Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, H.E. Tomio Okamura, for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and promote tourism cooperation between Uganda and the Czech Republic.
During the park excursion, Speaker Okamura named a baby gorilla "Tomio", the Czech equivalent of the name Thomas.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa highlighted the importance of gorilla conservation, noting that mountain gorillas remain an endangered species requiring continuous environmental protection.
He stated that the visiting parliamentary leader assured Ugandan officials of his commitment to advocate for Uganda's tourism sector upon returning home.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa added that the high-level visit signals international confidence in Uganda's security and travel safety, even as some foreign governments delay lifting travel advisories.
The diplomatic engagement was organized and coordinated by Uganda's Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Stephen Mubiru.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa urged Ugandans to prioritize domestic tourism and explore the nation's natural heritage alongside international visitors.
