President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday hosted Somali President H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at State House Entebbe, where they reaffirmed Uganda and Somalia’s commitment to regional security and economic cooperation.
President Mohamud, who was in Uganda on a one-day official visit, arrived with Somalia’s Minister of Defence and other top government officials. The two leaders reviewed key bilateral, regional, and international issues, building on discussions from Mohamud’s previous visit to Uganda in October 2024.
They exchanged views on Somalia’s security situation and the broader Horn of Africa, emphasizing the need for stability and peace. Both presidents also acknowledged the sacrifices made by Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T/PCCs) to the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali Security Forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab since 2007.
Museveni praised Somalia’s resilience, stating, “I commend President Mohamud, his government, and the people of Somalia for their commitment and efforts in stabilizing their country.”
Mohamud, in turn, expressed gratitude to Uganda for its long-standing support. “I appreciate the sacrifice and commitment of President Museveni, his government, and the people of Uganda to Somalia’s peace and security,” he said.
The meeting was attended by senior Ugandan officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo, Minister of State for Veteran Affairs Huda Oleru, Uganda’s Deputy Head of Mission in Somalia Amb. Nathan Mugisha, and Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding.
