Ugandan opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, is reported to be in the United States of America, ending weeks of speculation regarding his whereabouts since the January 2026 election cycle.

Credible sources familiar with his movements told this publication that Bobi Wine exited Uganda in late January, transiting through a neighboring country.

He is believed to have crossed a land border before traveling to the United States. Since his surreptitious exit, Bobi Wine has maintained the appearance of being in Uganda, occasionally posting content that may have been recorded before his departure.

Bobi Wine lost the January 15 election to the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni, who secured a seventh term in office after officially receiving over 71% of the total votes cast.

Throughout the campaign, Kyagulanyi and senior NUP leaders repeatedly incited unrest, raising significant concerns that the electoral period would be marred by violence.

However, security forces staged timely interventions to ensure the election process remained peaceful, secure, and calm. Several NUP officials and their supporters who engaged in disruptive acts were apprehended and are currently facing prosecution in the courts of law.
