President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated that direct, unconditioned political dialogue remains the only viable path to halting recurring armed conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The President made the remarks at State House, Entebbe, during a bilateral meeting with the European Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region, Johan Borgstam, focused on regional security architecture and pacification mechanisms.
Addressing the escalating humanitarian fallout and diplomatic friction in the region, President Museveni warned that military posturing and political obstinacy are needlessly prolonging the suffering of innocent civilians.
“The only solution is talk. Stop all these threats and wars and everything else and talk, because it is unfair that the people of Congo are suffering because of this stubbornness to refuse to talk,” President Museveni said.

He emphasized that Congolese citizens have an inherent right to durable peace, stability, and the opportunity to chart their sovereign destiny through inclusive, peaceful political frameworks.
EU Special Representative Borgstam commended President Museveni for his longstanding role and institutional memory in Great Lakes diplomacy, noting that the European delegation sought his strategic perspective to help guide European peace initiatives in the region.
“We have come to seek your advice and get a full analysis from you as the regional father who is wise and experienced,” Borgstam noted during the engagement.
The high-level diplomatic audience was attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to Uganda, Ambassador Jan Sadek; the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Uganda, Éole Sury; and the Political Adviser to the EU Special Representative, Tristan Terryn.
