The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a stern warning to political allies of former Speaker Anita Annet Among against organizing public gatherings or celebrations, following President Yoweri Museveni's directive to release her from house arrest.
In a statement on X, Gen. Kainerugaba clarified that the presidential pardon for the former Speaker does not grant immunity to her wider network or clear unresolved criminal cases. Security forces, he warned, will arrest anyone attempting to hold celebrations or mobilize around the decision. Investigative arms of the government are maintaining open files examining the activities of lawmakers, campaign operatives, and parliamentary staff.
“There will be ABSOLUTELY no party for AAA. We shall arrest anybody involved in that nonsense! Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” Gen. Kainerugaba said in the post.
According to unconfirmed reports from sources familiar with the former Speaker's network, several current and former Members of Parliament have continued to quietly visit Anita Among at her residence despite the security scrutiny surrounding her circle.
These reports suggest that investigators are evaluating allegations concerning a broad cross-section of figures across the political spectrum. Among those named are Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, Kazo County MP Dan Kimosho, and Buwekula South MP Dedan Mubangizi, who are also referenced in source accounts regarding campaign logistics and mobilization networks.
Investigators are also auditing potential protection shields surrounding state agencies like the National Medical Stores.
The same accounts reveal that financial transfers and committee promises were used to court various lawmakers. These include members of opposition factions such as the Forum for Democratic Change, independent MPs like Paul Mwiru, and lawmakers like Dicksons Kateshumbwa and Shilla Amaniyo. Historical committee allowances and financial allocations involving figures such as Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake, former Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga, Bugiri MP Asuman Basalirwa, Kimanya-Kabonera MP Abed Bwanika, and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda are also reportedly under auditor review.
State prosecutors maintain that while military guards have been withdrawn from the former Speaker's residences, primary files regarding money laundering, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement remain active.
