The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, modern, high-quality road infrastructure, directing contractors to fast-track works under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP).

On September 11, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki met managers of China Railway 18th Group, led by Dong Limin, at City Hall to review progress and set timelines for completion.

Buzeki stressed pedestrian safety, urging the contractor to prioritise walkways, especially on Fifth Street, and to improve dust control and debris management.

“As KCCA, our priority is the safety and well-being of city residents. We expect contractors to not only build roads but also create safer spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Dust suppression and proper site clearance are non-negotiable,” Buzeki said.

The contractor reported progress on key roads in the Industrial Area, including 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Streets, and committed to completing 8th Street, Sir Apollo Kaggwa, and Muzito Road by December 2025.

Limin acknowledged delays on Salaama Road caused by National Water pipe relocations but said the company has resorted to night works to speed up progress. He pledged full commitment to delivering on time.

“We are committed to working closely with KCCA to deliver quality roads on schedule. We are doubling efforts on Salaama and Kyebando. Safety and quality remain central to our work,” Limin said.

The Authority continues close technical supervision through its Engineering Directorate, led by Eng. Justus Akankwasa, to ensure contractors meet strict quality standards.

Akankwasa noted that the KCRRP is one of the most transformative infrastructure programmes in the city’s history, aimed at decongesting Kampala, improving drainage, and enhancing pedestrian and traffic safety.

“Every road completed under KCRRP is a milestone in building a city that works for its people. KCCA will not relent in ensuring contractors deliver results,” Akankwasa said.

With more than 40 roads under rehabilitation, KCCA is driving the modernisation of Kampala’s infrastructure.
