A planning meeting was held on Monday at City Hall ahead of the Kampala City Festival.

KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi met with the Director of Operations in the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa, along with officials from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), Internal Security Organisation (ISO), and other security agencies.

Kigenyi stressed that the festival is a national event, not just for Kampala.

“This event is an opportunity for all Ugandans to celebrate our culture, innovation, and sustainability. We must organise it better each year, ensuring it is safe and inclusive for everyone,” Kigenyi said.

He noted that the festival will boost commerce, tourism, and community unity, making security a top priority. He also highlighted KCCA’s efforts to reflect Kampala’s youthful energy while respecting political, religious, and academic dynamics.

In his remarks, AIGP Mwesigwa praised KCCA’s preparations and assured the Authority of maximum security support. He confirmed that the Counter Terrorism Police, traffic officers, and other specialised units will be deployed to ensure smooth operations before and during the event.

“The Uganda Police Force is fully committed to working with KCCA to ensure a safe, successful, and memorable festival for all Ugandans,” Mwesigwa said.

Festival Organising Committee chairperson Sheila Birungi thanked the police and the growing list of sponsors supporting the event.

The sponsors include Centenary Bank, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, China Railway 18th Bureau Group, Psalms Food Industries Ltd, NBS TV, Record Radio, and BBS TV. She urged more companies to join in supporting the country’s biggest cultural celebration.

The 2025 Kampala City Festival will feature attractions such as a children’s space at Kololo, a medical camp, a Halal Village, a Christian fellowship point at Hotel Africana, and pre-event activities including tree planting, blood donation drives, and community clean-ups.

KCCA officials said the festival is designed to be inclusive, showcasing Kampala’s youthful spirit while embracing political, religious, and academic diversity.

The Kampala City Festival will take place on October 5, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
